Commandery of Wales charity dinner in support of Syrian Refugee Appeal

Saturday, 19 October, 2019

On Saturday 19th October 2019 at 1900 the Cardiff Oratorians and the Order of St Lazarus Commandery of Wales are hosting at Newman Hall a charity dinner in support of the Aid to the Church in Need (ACN) Syrian Refugee Appeal.  The following link gives an appreciation of the work that ACN does amongst the minority Christian population of Syria:

As the diocese of our Spiritual Protector, His Beatitude Youssef Absi SMSP, covers the area supported by the ACN Syrian appeal and many of his people have been horribly affected by the Syrian civil war, I think it would be a good witness for our Commandery to support this fund raising event.  We will be responsible for collecting the funds and will donate the monies via our ring fenced account at the Trust so that gift aid can be claimed on the donation.

I am pleased to announce that John Pontifex, Head of Public Relations and Information at ACN, will deliver a lecture entitled, ‘Genocide, exodus and destitution: Is it too late to save Christianity in Syria from extinction?’  John has travelled widely in Syria for ACN. He will give a first hand account of the war zone.  He will also describe his visit to Krak des Chevaliers, an ancient crusader fortress in Syria.

The cost of the three course dinner is £30 per head.  As is our custom at Newman Hall, diners are encouraged to bring wine to share amongst their guests.  There will be an opportunity for direct giving to the appeal on the evening.  Places at table are limited, 28 places have already been reserved.  Please RSVP to me by E-mail if you would like a place reserved for you.  This event is open to members of the Commandery, the Pelican Club and our guests.

Dress code: black tie, neck decorations and/or miniatures.

Atavis et Armis!
