Report on events in 2009
During 2009 there have been three fund raising dinners, held in Retford, Halifax and Ilkley, which have all been highly enjoyable and well supported. The Annual Convocation this year was held in Harrogate as a social event but we had a speaker from the Macmillan Cancer Support, which was very interesting and as a result the Commandery sent a donation. The Annual Service and Ceremony of Investiture were held in Bingley on Saturday October 3rd at All Saints Parish Church and the Presiding Officer was Chevalier Charles Holloway KCLJ CMLJ PSLJ. Two new Postulants were admitted to the Order as MLJ’s. Prior to this event the Ecclesiastical Grand Prior, Rev’d Canon Paul Denby JP OStJ EGCLJ KMLJ gave an excellent talk regarding the re-unification of the Order. He was also the Preacher at the Service. We were delighted not only to welcome friends and families and members from other Commanderies but also members from Germany, Austria and the Czech Republic. There followed a celebratory lunch at the Bradford/Leeds Ramada Hotel, Bingley. The evening prior to the Annual Service we held a Vigil Service, which was ably led by our Chaplain, Reverend Canon Derek Jackson SChLJ BD AKC. This was followed by an informal meal at a local Italian restaurant – always a much-enjoyed event.
The final event of the year was an Advent Carol Service to be held at All Saints Parish Church, Bingley at 11.30am on Saturday December 5th, followed by an informal lunch in Church House Old Main Street, Bingley.
