On the evening of Saturday 4th January 2020, members of the Commandery of Wales joined the parishioners of the Russian Orthodox parish of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God, at the University Church at Nazareth House/Newman Hall. The Commandery of Wales and the Russian Orthodox parish share the facilities at Nazareth House generously provided by the Sisters of Nazareth and the Cardiff Oratorian community.
The evening began with the Moleben in Honour of the Walsingham Icon of the Mother of God being offered by Revd Hieromonk Mark Underwood, Rector of the parish, and his Deacon, Mark Fisher. A preprandial drinks reception was followed by an Epiphany feast in the Newman Hall refectory, which included a most apposite pudding, Galette des Rois, cooked by Confrères Craig Williams CLJ and Neil Buffin CLJ, complete with crowns presented to those who found a gift in their portion. It was a pleasure to welcome Fr Ian Evans ECLJ, former Chaplain-General, who travelled from Perth to join us for our celebrations. By the end of the evening the Commandery of Wales had raised £3,600 for the Grand Prior’s World Leprosy Day 2020 appeal. Thank you for your generosity! The evening concluded with a firework display to celebrate the Epiphany.
Chevalier Dr David A. Woolf KCLJ
