Harvest Thanksgiving - King Offa Commandery

King Offa Commandery held its first-ever Harvest Festival Thanksgiving Service at St Katherine’s Church, Teversal Village, Nottinghamshire. We sang traditional harvest hymns including ‘We plough the fields and scatter’, ‘Come, ye thankful people come’ and ‘All things bright and beautiful’. Those attending generously brought with them tins and packets of food which were donated to the Food Bank afterwards. Following our worship In church, we enjoyed a traditional Harvest Supper in the nearby Manor Room.
The Grade I listed church is beautiful with box pews and a pulpit with clerk’s reading desk attached, as well as a magnificent Squire’s Pew. The unspoilt country village is small but was well worth a visit, as it is brimming with history and heritage. It is known for the Grade II listed, 17th Century country house of Teversal Manor, the fictional setting in D H Lawrence’s novel Lady Chatterley’s Lover. The Manor’s most notable residents were the Earls of Carnarvon, including the fifth Earl who financed the excavation of Tutankhamun’s tomb in Egypt in 1922.
A splendid occasion with charity at its heart.
