Sunday 26th January 2025 is World Leprosy Day. For members of our Order, committed to the care and treatment of those suffering from the debilitating disease of leprosy, this is a day of great significance when we can make a very real contribution towards the alleviation of leprosy. It is to that end The St Lazarus Charitable Trust (SLCT) has agreed that the Grand Priory’s World Leprosy Day Project for 2025 (WLD25) will be to support The Leprosy Mission of England & Wales (LMEW) with a project in Odisha in eastern India.
LMEW have located a leper colony in Odisha with the most appalling conditions they have ever encountered. There is a very real need for water and sanitation facilities, medical supplies, protective footwear and a training and education programme to aid in the detection of the disease.
The Lord Lothian Memorial Appeal for WLD25 will be open from Sunday 26th January until Low Sunday (27th April) 2025.Our aim is to attempt to raise £15,000 across the Grand Priory.
A letter from the Bailiff, introducing the project in more detail, can be downloaded here.
